The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverb 18:15
We need quality decisions to make any remarkable progress in life! There is no quality life without a quality decision. Sometimes, it can be very challenging to make the right decision. Nevertheless, a wrong decision taken at the right time is far better than a right decision taken at the wrong time.
We live in a world filled with endless choices and possibilities. Making some big decisions in life can be intimidating to most people. Decisions like the best career to choose, whom to marry, where to live or any decisions that are tough for you to handle!
This can sometimes result in people choosing decisions that reflect their fears and limitations instead of a decision that reflects their hope, belief and possibilities.
Interestingly, there is no specific detailed answer in the Bible to some of these big life decisions. However, the word of God gives us principles to guide us. A good Knowledge of these principles makes it easier to make these decisions! The word of God says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29.
God may not tell you the exact career or profession to practice but you are commanded to work and do it honestly. "Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need." Ephesians 4:28
Moreover, God may not tell you exactly whom to marry but you are commanded to marry only in the Lord. "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?" 2Corinthians 6:14.
God may not tell you exactly where to live but you are advised to keep Christian fellowship wherever you live "And let us consider one another to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24-25
Any decision that is tough for you to handle can be addressed by praying for wisdom, seeking godly counsel, and considering your gifting and the needs of others!
Furthermore, when making decisions we must put into consideration, whether or not our decision will please God! The word of God tells us some behaviour that displeases God. If these behaviours are involved in the decision then you must discontinue your decision! The decision should not involve sexual immorality, drunkenness, violence, theft, lying and so on. (Galatians 5:19-21)
Also, the word of God approves of certain other behaviours we can practice and probably involve in our decision-making, Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and many more "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
However, Christianity should not be reduced to dos and don'ts. It's a lifestyle and personal relationship with God. Your love for God should be the ultimate motive behind every decision you make with the result of bringing glory to Him "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31
In conclusion, seeking godly counsel, praying for wisdom, and considering your gift and the needs of others when making a decision can help in making quality decisions.
May you receive wisdom from the Lord to always make quality decisions in Jesus' name (Amen)
Blessing!
