Why must we pray
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
This verse encourages believers to pray about everything, both the relevant and irrelevant things. It emphasizes that believers should never be too busy, discouraged or weak to pray.
Praying to God can help ease our challenges! It's important to come to God with a heart of gratitude and reverence by praying and making our requests known to Him, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and seek His guidance and provision in our lives.
The verse reminds us to be careful about nothing, meaning that we shouldn't worry or be anxious about anything but instead rely on God through prayer and supplication.
Three things stood out in the verse above;
1) Be anxious for nothing
2) By prayer, supplication and thanksgiving tell God your request.
3) The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus as you put numbers 1 and 2 to use
A Life Of Prayer
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. 1 Chronicle 16:11
Prayer is a communication with God, as children do with their fathers. It's beyond going to God to solve a problem. You spend time with your loved ones, whether there is a need to be addressed or not, and discussed anything with them. So, God wants you to bring anything in your mind for a discussion. Although He is God, He needs your permission to get involved in some of your issues. (Revelation 3:20)
When you adopt the attitude of discussing anything with God whether relevant or irrelevant, it will spice up your prayer life. Even when you are busy with work, you will always be conscious of God's presence with you and it will seem as if a physical person is keeping you company.
The Power Of Prayer
And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:22
The Holy Spirit is the power of prayer. He helps us to pray rightly, so we can experience the power of prayer. Prayer should be something we do every day, like breathing and eating and not just for emergency purposes.
Paul and Silas experienced the power of prayer as they prayed and sang to God. There was a great earthquake, prison doors opened and everyone’s chains were loosed." (Acts16:25-26)
The story of Paul and Silas demonstrates the importance and power of prayer, even in difficult circumstances. Despite being beaten, put in prison and chained, they prayed and sang praises unto God, the power of prayer was felt strongly at the prison and God came to their rescue.
Understanding Prayer!
The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous. Proverbs 15:29
We always talk about prayer more than anything else and practised less than anything else. And yet, It remains the greatest gift from God at salvation.
Prayer deepens our partnership with God. As we pray, we get to receive how God might use us to answer the prayer or how He might involve us in ways we had not foreseen.
Answers to prayers may be; yes, no or wait. Yes and no can be fine but wait, that can be tough! In this case, prayer helps you to be on God's timetable and ease your waiting period. (Philippians 4:5-7)
Prayer opens our eyes to see what God is doing. We see things that we are blinded to without prayer. It aligns our hearts; thoughts and actions with God. It gives us an insight into God's mind.
We must be persistent in prayer and completely give ourselves to prayer in other to grow! It's beyond the shouting, the screaming, the kneeling or the positioning! It's a dialogue with God! Most importantly, a right heart towards God.
Finally, delighting yourself in the Lord and loving Him is the highest part of prayer, knowing that He's always with you. Your body is His temple; your whole life is His. Any time you say, "Lord," He's there. As we come in contact with God in prayer, our souls grow and deepen our prayer life! (Psalm 91:1)
